About the Training
The Nature-Based Exchange is holding a one-day training on how to use natural and nature-based solutions for urban stormwater management. Aimed at coastal practitioners who design, install, and plan for stormwater management (including, but not limited to, engineers, landscape designers, architects, developers, and planners), this training seeks to educate participants on existing stormwater management manuals and resources to expand the incorporation of nature-based designs in urban settings. Featuring coastal case studies and open discussion, this training will explore how existing manuals can be valuable tools in the planning and design process. Through this training, participants will leave with increased fluency and comfort in designing and implementing nature-based solutions for stormwater management projects. This course will cover the SCDES Stormwater Manual, the SC-LID Manual, the Southern Lowcountry (SoLoCo) Stormwater Design Manual, and the City of Charleston’s stormwater design manual.
During this training, participants will:
Gain a greater understanding of what resources and manuals are available to guide the design of coastal urban stormwater management systems.
Learn of project examples that apply guidance from existing stormwater manuals to design and build effective nature-based solutions.
Practice applying stormwater manual guidance to a real-world example.
